Riffraff Diesel Cam Position Sensor CPS 1994-2003 7.3L

The Cam Position Sensor (CPS) is one of the most critical sensors on your 7.3L Powerstroke. It provides the PCM with engine crank position and speed information, allowing the injectors to fire at precisely the right time. When the signal becomes weak or erratic, it can lead to poor drivability, intermittent stalling, hard starting, or even a no-start condition.

The original International “Black CPS” earned a loyal following among 7.3L owners for its excellent drivability and throttle response. When it was discontinued, many aftermarket replacements failed to deliver the same consistent performance.

Rather than simply reproducing an outdated design, we partnered with an OEM sensor manufacturer to develop an all-new CPS using modern Hall Effect technology, improved electronics, and tighter manufacturing controls. The result is a sensor engineered to provide exceptional signal stability, outstanding reliability, and the smooth performance 7.3L owners expect.

Every sensor is manufactured in an IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certified facility, individually tested before packaging, and validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear to ensure consistent performance right out of the box.

Whether you’re replacing a failed sensor or upgrading from an inconsistent aftermarket unit, our Upgraded CPS delivers the quality, reliability, and confidence your Powerstroke deserves.

Why Choose the Riffraff Diesel Upgraded CPS?

  • Designed specifically for 1994–2003 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke engines
  • Modern Hall Effect sensor technology with improved signal stability
  • Individually tested before packaging
  • Validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear
  • Manufactured in an IATF 16949 & ISO 14001 certified facility
  • Improved tolerance to increased sensor air gaps
  • Designed for excellent drivability, reliability, and long service life

Common Symptoms of a Failing CPS

A failing Cam Position Sensor may contribute to:

  • Intermittent engine stalling
  • Hard starting or no-start conditions
  • Rough idle or inconsistent throttle response
  • Sudden engine shutdown while driving
  • Camshaft position sensor diagnostic trouble codes

    Solution to a longstanding problem

Very pleased with this updated sensor that Riffraff brought us. Love the assurance of the reliability and maybe we won't have to carry extra CPS in the glove box going forward. Great job guys.

My truck had the original black CPS replaced under warranty to the grey version. I have had my truck since 2005 and It had always had a bit of a lope or miss when idling after that grey CPS was installed. That has completely gone away! I was a bit skeptical on how much quicker it would start and I noticed maybe one fewer rotations before she fired up. Probably not something I would’ve noticed unless others had mentioned it previously. Swapping it out was simple. Took all of 15 minutes. Just applied some O-ring lube to the blue O-ring and rocked it back-and-forth before it popped in. Great replacement part.

This new sensor is a big improvement over stock.
Engine idles smoother perdel is almost zero on all 8 cylinders. All 7.3 engines need this update.

    Riff Raff CPS

Probably the only part I've put on my truck that I actually noticed a difference. Granted I haven't put many aftermarket parts on it, but this was money well spent.

Smoother idle, better acceleration, all around upgrade over the CPS that was previously installed in my 2002 Excursion. A+ RiffRaff!!

    Im impressed

Posted by Michael Cook on Feb 10th 2026

I gotta admit i was skeptical of this sensor when it came out. I decided to order it and install it in my 99.5 work/plow truck. The idle is noticeably smoother, the throttle response is more immediate, and overall, the truck starts and runs significantly better. I’ve only got 15+ hours on it so far so can’t speak on longevity or any other improvements. I am highly impressed so far and hope it lasts a long time. Will be ordering another one sometime this year.

Thanks Clay and the team at RiffRaff for keeping our trucks on the road and running great!

I thought my F350 ran fine, and I almost did nt bother trying one of these. Finally caved seeing all the results online, and wow. Running for over a month now and I can say all the hype is correct, it really starts faster and runs smoother. WTG Riffraff

    Best cam sensor

My excursion 7.3 had a little hard starting issues and throttle response issues. I decided to change the cps . This thing really works. Runs like new, I cant believe it made my transmission shift way better. It also feels like I have more power. Awesome cps.
