Riffraff Diesel Cam Position Sensor CPS 1994-2003 7.3L

The Cam Position Sensor (CPS) is one of the most critical sensors on your 7.3L Powerstroke. It provides the PCM with engine crank position and speed information, allowing the injectors to fire at precisely the right time. When the signal becomes weak or erratic, it can lead to poor drivability, intermittent stalling, hard starting, or even a no-start condition.

The original International “Black CPS” earned a loyal following among 7.3L owners for its excellent drivability and throttle response. When it was discontinued, many aftermarket replacements failed to deliver the same consistent performance.

Rather than simply reproducing an outdated design, we partnered with an OEM sensor manufacturer to develop an all-new CPS using modern Hall Effect technology, improved electronics, and tighter manufacturing controls. The result is a sensor engineered to provide exceptional signal stability, outstanding reliability, and the smooth performance 7.3L owners expect.

Every sensor is manufactured in an IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certified facility, individually tested before packaging, and validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear to ensure consistent performance right out of the box.

Whether you’re replacing a failed sensor or upgrading from an inconsistent aftermarket unit, our Upgraded CPS delivers the quality, reliability, and confidence your Powerstroke deserves.

Why Choose the Riffraff Diesel Upgraded CPS?

  • Designed specifically for 1994–2003 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke engines
  • Modern Hall Effect sensor technology with improved signal stability
  • Individually tested before packaging
  • Validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear
  • Manufactured in an IATF 16949 & ISO 14001 certified facility
  • Improved tolerance to increased sensor air gaps
  • Designed for excellent drivability, reliability, and long service life

Common Symptoms of a Failing CPS

A failing Cam Position Sensor may contribute to:

  • Intermittent engine stalling
  • Hard starting or no-start conditions
  • Rough idle or inconsistent throttle response
  • Sudden engine shutdown while driving
  • Camshaft position sensor diagnostic trouble codes

    Cam Position Sensor 7.3

Posted by Corey on Sep 4th 2026

Worked well in my 2000 excursion 7.3. I replaced the light grey style. I have noticed more consistent starts and overall smoother operation, although only noticeable to someone who cares a lot about how their vehicle runs. Happy to have riff raff making these premium parts to keep my excursion on the road. Thanks guys!

    CPS Sensor Upgrade

Posted by Unknown on Sep 4th 2026

Local shop wanted to charge me over $2200 for a new number 8 injector. Decided to do my own research and took a chance on the new sensor and my rough idle and #8 code is gone. Nothing wrong with my injector, just a shop who was trying to make money on me. Thank you guys for making such a great upgrade.

Constant contribution codes from every CPS I could find, factory, parts store, did not matter. Decided to take a chance from Riffraff and I am glad I did! NO MORE CODEs! Back to running and driving like it should.

    CPS

My truck was already running pretty well, but after installing the Riffraff CPS I immediately noticed a smoother idle and much better throttle response. The truck feels more responsive and even the shifts seem smoother. Installation was simple. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for a 7.3L.

    Riffraff CPS

I can say that it would be horrible to change one of these things on the roadside, as I’ve heard some have had to do As soon as I replaced and fired the truck up, I heard and felt the difference. On the road, better giddy-up and smoother shifts. I threw the old one in the glove box and pray that I never have to replace it on the roadside. Great upgrade.

Wow - I was not sure the old one was bad, but the first test drive with this one and it brought back memories about how sensitive the throttle used to be - fantastic product!!

    C.p.s.

Posted by HARLEY GREEN on Aug 26th 2026

Had this truck for a year and a half now 3rd owner and all components of this truck were still original 26 years and 277,000 miles and it has been an adventure to say the least on final stage of overhaul and my new Riffraff C.p.s. delivered on time and the product was better then I anticipated. It cleared my idle made, it stronger, far better throttle response and after doing 3 contribution tests I am no longer getting the 8,3,2 cylinder failures. Completeley fixed my cackle and knock and it even got rid of the hard shifts. Smoother throttle response and cleaner down shifting (ZF6). Over all super happy great product god bless! Highly highly recommend to my 7.3 enthusiast if you wasnt sure you are now!

    CPS Sensor

Opened the boxed and I swear I heard the national anthem start playing, the national debt was lowered, and diesel was .50 a gallon. Maybe if I purchased two world peace would have been declared.

Love this CPS, my idle is better than it ever has been and I have owned my truck for almost 20 years. Must have item if you want a good running truck.
