Riffraff Diesel Cam Position Sensor CPS 1994-2003 7.3L

SHIPPING AGAIN 1/30

Remember the original International "Black CPS" that originally came with the Powerstroke? Your engine idled smoother, had better cylinder contribution, and overall better drivability but unfortunately it was discontinued almost 20 years ago. The industry has been forced to make due with the updated "Grey CPS" and sacrifice those original attributes until now...

We have developed a brand new CPS that has all the original qualities, with the addition of 20 year newer chip and sensor technology! With this new technology and manufacturing knowledge we have been able to accurately increase the signal strength and clarity at more than double the air gap and rpm the original "Black CPS" was able to sense with no degradation of signal. This allows for more realized benefits and reliability than even the original "Black CPS was able to provide.

  • ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 production facility
  • Every sensor is function tested on an actual 7.3L Cam gear for 100% accuracy
  • Assembly process is re-validated biannually on all sub-components

    Riffraff CPS

I was definitely a little skeptical if I’m being honest, but after installing the upgraded CPS my truck idles better and is quieter. I can’t notice a difference driving but having the smoother idle is a big plus. I will absolutely be buying another one.

Way smoother idle and this truck has never passed a contribution test till now. Very happy.

    New CPS

Came well packaged and a day early. Easy install, probably easiest to do on the whole truck other than the IPC sensor. Overall everything seems to run better, just like when it was new with my old black ford CPS. Worth the money.

    CPS

I couldn't get new part to goes in the block because of the O-ring. I tried to use even a bar to pry it but thought it was going to break. Only way to get it in was use my old o-ring. Defuse not feel any difference in running at all and still fluctuating on tack still. But will see how it lasts.

    Best CPS

I was doubtful that after all these years that a better sensor could be made, but I was wrong. My truck starts faster, smoother idles, and I would swear better throttle response. Very happy with this sensor and I will be getting another just to keep in case.

    My new favorite CPS.

I’ve tried all the common camshaft position sensor (CPS) options for my 7.3L Powerstroke. That includes both of Ford’s versions (light gray and blue with purple O-ring), and I was even considering hunting down an International one when I discovered Riff Raff’s CPS.
My engine ran decently before, but it always had a slight shimmy at idle.
    • The light gray Ford CPS had the most noticeable shimmy but gave the best fuel mileage.
    • The blue Ford CPS (with purple O-ring) reduced the shimmy a bit, but fuel economy dropped and it produced more smoke.
After running Riff Raff’s CPS for a while now, the idle shimmy is almost completely gone, and smoke during acceleration has cleared up as much as possible on this engine. I haven’t done long-term fuel mileage testing yet, but with the smoother idle and reduced smoke, I’m confident it’ll be significantly better than the others.
Installation note: This CPS has much tighter tolerances than the OEM versions. Definitely grease the O-ring well before installing—it still took me longer than expected to seat it properly, even with grease. That said, there’s no doubt this one seals perfectly and won’t leak.
    Highly recommended if you’re chasing a smooth-running 7.3!

    Cam Position Sensor

Posted by Karl Johnson on Dec 30th 2025

Very impressed with the quick starts and smooth idle, I had been dealing with an inconsistent idle despite changing the usual suspects - ICP, IPR, EBP Sensor & tube, and even a new factory CPS. Still wasn't perfect after all that. But this updated CPS finally fixed this. My van starts, idles, and runs perfectly. It's really amazing and so much fun to drive now.
