Riffraff Diesel Cam Position Sensor CPS 1994-2003 7.3L

The Cam Position Sensor (CPS) is one of the most critical sensors on your 7.3L Powerstroke. It provides the PCM with engine crank position and speed information, allowing the injectors to fire at precisely the right time. When the signal becomes weak or erratic, it can lead to poor drivability, intermittent stalling, hard starting, or even a no-start condition.

The original International “Black CPS” earned a loyal following among 7.3L owners for its excellent drivability and throttle response. When it was discontinued, many aftermarket replacements failed to deliver the same consistent performance.

Rather than simply reproducing an outdated design, we partnered with an OEM sensor manufacturer to develop an all-new CPS using modern Hall Effect technology, improved electronics, and tighter manufacturing controls. The result is a sensor engineered to provide exceptional signal stability, outstanding reliability, and the smooth performance 7.3L owners expect.

Every sensor is manufactured in an IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certified facility, individually tested before packaging, and validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear to ensure consistent performance right out of the box.

Whether you’re replacing a failed sensor or upgrading from an inconsistent aftermarket unit, our Upgraded CPS delivers the quality, reliability, and confidence your Powerstroke deserves.

Why Choose the Riffraff Diesel Upgraded CPS?

  • Designed specifically for 1994–2003 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke engines
  • Modern Hall Effect sensor technology with improved signal stability

Common Symptoms of a Failing CPS

A failing Cam Position Sensor may contribute to:

  • Intermittent engine stalling
  • Hard starting or no-start conditions
  • Rough idle or inconsistent throttle response
  • Sudden engine shutdown while driving
  • Camshaft position sensor diagnostic trouble codes

    Great product and great support

Definitely has quieted down the clack but you still know you’re in a diesel. Smoothed out the throttle response. I haven’t tracked mpg yet but gauge is looking good.

    CPS

My 7.3 ran fine with no problems. I bought this more out of curiosity than anything and didn't figure I'd notice it. I was astonished when my start ups were smoother, throttle input is smoother, idle is significantly smoother. I can keep my foot in one spot and the digital readout of my rpm's stays within 5-20 rpm vs the 50-100 rpm bouncing around before. Well worth the money.

Seems to be performing well, idle is steady, throttle response seems to have improved. Definitely a tighter fit than others. Very happy with the purchase.

    Upgraded CPS

Such an upgrade over the grey motorcraft sensor I have been running. Had the riffraff cps in for almost 2 months now and I have to say I am still impressed with how fast the truck starts up and the smooth idle. If you want to your truck to run like it did from the factory then get this sensor. I thought it might just be hype until I tried one myself, and it is all positives. Thanks Riffraff!

    RR CSP

I’m not sure how to explain it but compared to the international purple csp I had no issues with, the truck is much smoother running and seems to be a little more quiet? There’s not as much rattle and noise once warmed up. The only small issue is how big the circle is going into the motor, it barely fits. Definitely questioned if it was seated all the way. But so far in my opinion, it’s worth the cost to finally have the truck sound nicer and not so obnoxious. Yes I know it’s an old diesel, but this is a nice improvement.

    1994.5 CPS

I didn’t need a new one but after seeing that the data and reviews I figured I would give it try. And I can say this sensor is definitely an upgrade. My truck runs better all the way around. Threw my old one in glove box but will definitely order another to put in my glove box for a spare. Awesome product as always from riff raff.
