Riffraff Diesel Cam Position Sensor CPS 1994-2003 7.3L

The Cam Position Sensor (CPS) is one of the most critical sensors on your 7.3L Powerstroke. It provides the PCM with engine crank position and speed information, allowing the injectors to fire at precisely the right time. When the signal becomes weak or erratic, it can lead to poor drivability, intermittent stalling, hard starting, or even a no-start condition.

The original International “Black CPS” earned a loyal following among 7.3L owners for its excellent drivability and throttle response. When it was discontinued, many aftermarket replacements failed to deliver the same consistent performance.

Rather than simply reproducing an outdated design, we partnered with an OEM sensor manufacturer to develop an all-new CPS using modern Hall Effect technology, improved electronics, and tighter manufacturing controls. The result is a sensor engineered to provide exceptional signal stability, outstanding reliability, and the smooth performance 7.3L owners expect.

Every sensor is manufactured in an IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certified facility, individually tested before packaging, and validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear to ensure consistent performance right out of the box.

Whether you’re replacing a failed sensor or upgrading from an inconsistent aftermarket unit, our Upgraded CPS delivers the quality, reliability, and confidence your Powerstroke deserves.

Why Choose the Riffraff Diesel Upgraded CPS?

  • Designed specifically for 1994–2003 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke engines
  • Modern Hall Effect sensor technology with improved signal stability
  • Individually tested before packaging
  • Validated on an actual 7.3L camshaft gear
  • Manufactured in an IATF 16949 & ISO 14001 certified facility
  • Improved tolerance to increased sensor air gaps
  • Designed for excellent drivability, reliability, and long service life

Common Symptoms of a Failing CPS

A failing Cam Position Sensor may contribute to:

  • Intermittent engine stalling
  • Hard starting or no-start conditions
  • Rough idle or inconsistent throttle response
  • Sudden engine shutdown while driving
  • Camshaft position sensor diagnostic trouble codes

    7.3 PSD CPS Upgrade

Posted by Rodney on May 10th 2026

I've heard great things about the upgraded CPS. Since I have experienced hard start and long cold cranks to start I decided to pay the money for this upgrade but they were always out of stock. I watched the website closely and finally caught some inventory. I ordered one ASAP! It came in quickly. My Initial observation is the RiffRaff unit has broader sensor face. Upon comparing the magnetic strength of the RiffRaff one to the others I have on hand, the RiffRaff CPS showed the strongest attraction. In she went. I experienced an immediate improvement with cold starts. Same with starting after warmed...a bump of the key and that 29 year old 7.3 lights right up! I'm very satisfied and recommend everyone get one. I also recommend RiffRaff increase their stock levels.

    Cam Position Sensor

Made my 2002 7.3 idle and run obviously better. Have installed black and gray OEM CPS and they both failed.

    WOW!

What a huge difference the RiffRaff CPS made in my truck. The idle is smoother and less noisy. When accelerating between 45-70mph @75% throttle, the engine sounds so much smoother! Highly recommend this newer sensor!!!

    PERDEL's evened out

Posted by Jim Griffin on May 5th 2026

Across the board, cylinder contribution evened out. Biggest changes were in cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 8. With Ford Gray CPS, I was seeing 1.7 - 2.4% PERDEL in those cylinders. RiffRaff CPS knocked all of those down to .7% or lower and numbers were overall, more consistent across all 8 cylinders. Number 8 cleaned up the most with the numbers going from 2.4% down to a consistent .2%.

    Updated cam sensor

Posted by dan d on Apr 30th 2026

Ordered cam sensor when it became available, finally! I can say that i have not experienced and significant improvements overall, but then again maybe my truck was already doing fine. I am happy with this,no issues so far,and it at least looks like a quality product, hopefully with some longevity!
