Opti-Lube Winter Anti-Gel Diesel Fuel Additive

Opti-Lube Winter Anti-Gel Diesel Fuel Additive

Cold-weather diesel problems usually start at the fuel filter. As temperatures fall, paraffin wax naturally present in diesel, begins forming crystals. Once those crystals get large enough, they can restrict or plug the filter even though there is still liquid fuel in the tank.

Opti-Lube Winter Anti-Gel is designed to stop that process before it starts. It's a multifunction diesel additive focused on cold-weather protection, helping keep fuel flowing down to -40°F depending on the base fuel and treatment rate.

What it does

Opti-Lube Winter is more than an anti-gel. It also provides:

  • Enhanced fuel-system lubricity
  • At least a 3-point cetane increase
  • Injector cleaning and deposit control
  • Rust and corrosion protection
  • Improved water separation
  • Improved fuel storage stability
  • Compatibility with diesel emissions systems
  • One 8 oz bottle treats up to 32 gallons of diesel fuel.

What diesel gelling feels like

A truck usually does not go from running normally to completely gelled without warning. Common symptoms include loss of power, hesitation under load, falling fuel pressure, hard starting, rough running, or an engine that starts and then dies as wax plugs the fuel filter.

Add it before the fuel gets cold

This part is extremely important. Winter Anti-Gel must be added before the diesel reaches its cloud point, when wax crystals first begin forming. Once the fuel is already cold enough for wax to crystallize, a preventative additive cannot mix or modify those crystals as effectively. Adding it while fueling is the easiest way to get good distribution through the tank.

If the fuel is already gelled, Winter Anti-Gel is not the right product. Opti-Lube recommends Gel Melt for reliquefying gelled fuel or de-icing a plugged fuel filter, followed by Winter or XPD once the system is running again.

Use reality: do it before you need it

Pour the correct amount into the tank before or during fueling, preferably while the fuel is still above its cloud point. Let the incoming diesel mix the additive through the tank, then run the truck normally.

In especially cold climates or with high-wax fuel, Opti-Lube notes that a higher treatment rate may be necessary.

Bottom line: If you’re searching for a diesel anti-gel, Powerstroke winter fuel additive, or a way to help prevent diesel fuel gelling and plugged fuel filters, Opti-Lube Winter Anti-Gel Diesel Fuel Additive adds cold-flow protection along with lubricity, cetane improvement, injector cleaning, and corrosion protection in one treatment.
