Fuel Pressure Regulator “Blue Spring” Kit for 6.0L Powerstroke (2003–2007)
Mar 11th 2026
The Fuel Pressure Regulator “Blue Spring” Kit (AP0086) fixes a boring problem that becomes an expensive one: low fuel pressure on a 6.0L. This updated spring restores fuel pressure back toward where it should be, and most trucks see about an 8–10 PSI increase after the swap.

What the blue spring upgrade does
The factory regulator spring gets tired over time. When fuel pressure sags, injectors can start out-flowing the stock pump and introduce air/aeration, which is the fast lane to shortened injector life. The Blue Spring upgrade helps keep pressure consistent so injectors stay fed and happy.
Why fuel pressure matters on a 6.0L
Low fuel pressure contributes to injector wear. Without proper fuel pressure lubrication drops, temperatures rise, and wear to parts increases. Unfortunatley there's no check engine light for low pressure on these trucks. Fuel pressure isn’t something you can “check with a scanner” on a 6.0/7.3—you have to physically gauge it. Meaning you may have dangerously low fuel pressure without even knowiing it.
In our testing and experience, 45–60 PSI is normal on a 6.0L, and again, running low can contribute to injector damage.
What owners typically notice
Besides the pressure bump, customers commonly report the truck:
- quiets down at idle,
- revs quicker,
- and can feel a touch more responsive with quicker turbo spool.
Install notes (real-world tips)
- It’s often a ~30 minute install if the hardware cooperates.
- Soak the regulator bolts ahead of time—snapping one turns “easy upgrade” into “long afternoon.”
Side Note: If you’d rather replace the whole cover while you’re in there, we also stock the Ford Blue Spring Kit w/Cover—but in most cases the cover isn’t required.
Recommended “do it right” add-ons
- If you’re going to raise pressure, it makes sense to measure it: we carry several optipns.
- For smoother sender readings on 03.5–07 trucks, an Isspro snubber kit is designed to install at the test port with the correct adapter setup.
