6.0L Powerstroke Billet Thermostat Housing FAQ

6.0L Powerstroke Billet Thermostat Housing FAQ

Jan 28th 2026

The stock 6.0L Powerstroke thermostat housing has one job: seal. And then, eventually, it… doesn’t. Corrosion + heat cycles = seepage. Riffraff Diesel has the fix: The 6.0L Billet Thermostat Housing.

What is the Riffraff Diesel 6.0L billet thermostat housing?

A direct-replacement thermostat housing for 2003–2007 6.0L Powerstroke engines, machined from billet aluminum and anodized, supplied with stainless hardware and a Viton® O-ring seal for better sealing, and Made in the USA.

What problem does it solve?

It replaces the leaking/corroded OEM-style thermostat housing, improving durability and sealing reliability with upgraded materials and hardware. Plus, it looks awesome.

Do I need RTV sealant?

No RTV is needed if the surfaces are clean and the O-ring is properly seated.

What is the thermostat housing bolt torque spec?

17 lb-ft (23 Nm) for thermostat housing bolts.

Should I replace the thermostat at the same time?

Generally yes because it’s a wear item, especially if it’s older, but you can reuse your OEM thermostat or install a new Motorcraft thermostat assembly.

What’s a smart add-on for long-term reliability?

A coolant filtration system—Riffraff’s kit filters a small amount of coolant each pass and uses a Donaldson spin-on filter, with a step-by-step install guide is available.
