Banks Techni-Cooler Intercooler System - 1994-97 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke - 25970

Dramatically increases the cooling capacity by balancing the richer fuel mixture with greater airflow and cooler, denser air. Denser air has more oxygen, which improves combustion as well as engine efficiency. Result: higher continuous power and more power at any exhaust gas temp (EGT), better fuel economy and lower EGTs. That's a truckload of benefits! Banks Techni-Cooler delivers the maximum reduction in boost air temperature with a minimal loss of boost pressure. It doesn't get any cooler than Techni-Cooler!

Superior to stock, everything about Banks Techni-Cooler Intercooler systems are bigger. With large, high-efficiency all-aluminum end tanks instead of the wimpy stock plastic ones that can rupture under high-boost conditions ... a wide-open inlet and outlet ... a thicker core area with a dramactic increase in flow volume.

 Applications:

  • 1994-97 Ford 7.3L DI Powerstroke

Kit Includes:

  • Techni-Cooler Intercooler
  • 3'' Mandrel-Bent High Flow Boost Tubes
  • Twin-Ram manifold inlet*
  • All Necessary Hardware

Note: Because the stock manifold inlet flows more air to one side of the cylinder bank than the other, Banks developed an innovative Twin-Ram manifold inlet assembly that flows air evenly to both sides for smooth, even power delivery.

Fits 1994-1997 DI 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel F Series 250/350

    Banks Intercooler

Posted by C Smith on Nov 20th 2022

I’d researched product and other alternatives for my 97 OBS and wanted to go ahead and spend the money for a kit specifically for my truck. The powder coated red boost tubes look a whole lot better than the older versions with gray. It’s a nice change from the same old black everything under the hood. This job was a little challenging since I’d never done this type of work before. Removing the area for IC in front of core support wasn’t too bad. A Die grinder with a carbide bit does wonders. Just remember to cut the back side of support as much as the front area to allow for boost tubes, boots and clamps. Looks can be deceiving and try not to cut out spot welds. If you do have to, make sure you drill a hole and insert a bolt and lock nut and securely tighten to keep area from spreading if you don’t have a mig handy. Riff Raff Diesel also had the best prices on everything that I’ve purchased ! You younger guys improving your trucks, kudos to you !
I wish I’d done this years ago !
Also, the shipping on everything was extremely fast !
Keep up the great work, Clay was very helpful with any questions that needed to be answered during this product install as with all other products purchased.

First off, thank you Riff Raff Diesel for the great service. The quick service was amazing! Now on to the product. While the fit and finish of the intercooler is top notch; Banks control of their packing is not. The system was missing the templates for the cutouts which made install very difficult as fitment was trial and error until I got it to fit right. It was also missing a support bracket which entailed fabricating one and the instructions were a general guide at best. For a system that cost nearly $2,000.00 and is supposed to be the best engineered one out there, I am very disappointed . Thankfully after two days of trial and error everything fit nicely and works as it should. Turbo spools up a little faster and EGTs are about 300 degrees cooler.

Not the easiest kit to install. removing the grill, head light support. valance, and bumper on a 25 year old truck is a lot of work, but I'm 73 years old. You have to take all this off so you can cut the radiator shroud openings for the inlet and outlet of the cooler. they give you templets but this is a starting point that you will have to modify on the inside of the engine compartment. The band clamps are another problem. they don't open far enough to slide over the rubber couplers once the couplers are on the 3" tube. I had to use Vasoline to help things slide into place. If you are running air conditioning the lower condenser hose is a problem where it passes through the radiator shroud. You just have to modify the opening a little more. All in all the finished product is great, it took me 3 days, but I'm an old guy. there is one thing that might be a problem, and that's cooling. The intercooler sits about 3inches out from the radiator, and stands about 2/3 the height of the radiator, so the top 1/3 of the radiator is the only portion that gets direct air through the grill. The intercooler blocks the lower 2/3. Now, cooling has never been a problem with my truck, but with the intercooler in front of the radiator, i"ll have to see if that changes anything. haven't driven the truck much because it's been really hot out here, but the little i have driven it , it runs great with little if any turbo lag. I don't think you can beat the quality of this kit, you just have to commit to the whole project.

Fit was close, directions get you in the general area, had to do some out side the box thinking. If that was it I would give 4 Stars. The y tube replacement was full of welding slag, add an extra hour for wire wheeling it out, hope the parts you can't see don't have any in it. Also the two tabs that are supposed to be bolted to the injector cover, only one lined up the other is 90degrees out, good luck. Lastly the hole that is supposed to bolt to the tube on the turbo is an 1in out, not gone make.

    Banks CAC is worth it

Posted by RL Richards on Apr 6th 2021

This kit is definitely worth the money, I wished I'd done it sooner. The kit is really good quality, especially the cooler itself. I really liked the fit & finish of the piping as well as the brackets. The increase in usable power is noticeable as well as the decrease in exhaust temps. I was able to retain the stock trans cooler and intake manifolds with this kit. The hoses & clamps that come with the kit are good quality, the only draw back was the clamp size (slightly too small & a challenge to install) and the lack of new manifold hoses. For the money I expected new manifold hoses & clamps that were easier to install. Banks stuff is pricey so I expected a little more but all in all this kit is worth it.

    Be prepared

Posted by Matt on Mar 31st 2021

Detailed instructions are really helpful, but be prepared to deviate. The excellent diagrams were more helpful than the instructions. If you aren't practiced with a saw, be careful cutting the core support...all of a sudden I needed a new radiator. Also, where it says "you may need to cut..." go ahead and cut there's no maybe about it. I was gun shy on cutting after the radiator incident, but ended up taking the pipes back out after install because there was metal to metal contact. Wasted some time by not cutting earlier.

Works great. Install is tight but doable. Call Banks for pics of turbo air intake bracket mods that are missing from instructions.

this kit is amazing! for years i wanted to put a cooler in my OBS but could never bring myself to pay up for this kit, i tried piecing my own kit together, and i know it can be done with superduty parts but i was over it and finally just pulled the trigger on the Banks and i couldn't be happier! great instructions and the install went very smooth, every thing lined up great! banks thought of everything when they made up this kit!
