1. Remove the drain plug from the transmission and catch the fluid in a drain pan. It may take several minutes for the fluid to drain.

 

2. Pop the hood and pull the transmission dipstick out 2‐3 inches so it won’t be in your way once you drop the transmission pan.

3. Remove the bolts holding the transmission pan in place using your 10mm socket and extension where necessary.

 

4. After removing all bolts carefully lower transmission pan. It is recommended that you take this opportunity to clean the magnet in the bottom of the transmission pan.

5. Remove the transmission filter. It is the large black object found near the front of the transmission. It may require some twisting to remove it from the seal.  When you remove it you will want to make sure the orange O‐Ring seal comes out with it.

 

6. The valve body closest to the front of the transmission is the one to replace. Remove the 8mm nuts and 10mm bolts holding the valve body in place. Be careful removing the valve body as it will still be full of fluid.

 

7. Get your new valve body ready to put in.

 

8. Reinstall the 8mm bolts and 10mm nuts. Torque them to 100 in‐lb.

 

9. Install transmission filter with O‐Ring seal.

10. Clean transmission pan gasket and reinstall transmission pan making sure drain plug is in place. Torque bolts to 120 in‐lb. If bolts are reinstalled and “snuggedup”by feel rather than being properly torqued, you may have leaks.

11. Refill transmission with Ford approved (Mercon/Dextron) automatic transmission fluid through dipstick tube. When the fluid level is correct, start the truck and with your foot on the brake, shift through all the gears slowly . Then place in park and check the fluid level again

12. Drive the truck and check transmission fluid level. Add as necessary.
