    1994 Mishimoto 7.3L Radiator

    This is a well made unit however I had a little trouble with mount locations. The Mishimoto cap would NOT properly mount on their own rad without severe gouging. The rad supports the crappy factory style accessories cooling lines at the bottom and I understand why, but in my humble opinion a high performance rad (not ordinary OEM replacement) should use AN and/or NPT Bungs to permit stronger and better sealing connections to the rad. I Alodized mine inside and out (MIL-DTL-5541F spec) then ceramic coated the tanks and sprayed the fins with a heat transfer coating. The fan makes significantly more noise than before so I suspect the volume of air flowing through the fins is better than stock. I converted the engine to Evans synthetic coolant which is less efficient than water, so I made sure that all other components were up to speed including new silicone hoses because the conversion reduces the systems capacity for stored energy and thermal transfer. I drilled (3) 1/8" bypass holes in the stainless thermostat to improve its operation for waterless use. The conversion paid off! I now have no corrosion, boil over, gunk build-up, cavitation, no possibility of freezing and cracked block, phase transfer from any drop in pressure, no additives needed, can now run 0-4psi instead of 16psi reducing stress on hoses, radiator and heater core, can remove cap no mater how hot the temp is....and no more flushes needed. I haven't yet converted to dual electric variable speed fans, but the cooling system has now been bullet proofed. Mishimoto permitted the change without having a radiator custom made.
